The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday declared its ambition of becoming the ‘backbone platform’ for India’s esports industry, confirming that Visakhapatnam will host the Grand Finals of the Indian Super Gaming League (ISGL).
The announcement was made during the ISGL curtain raiser in Mumbai by Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy, minister for transport, youth & sports, who outlined a comprehensive plan to leverage Visakhapatnam’s status as a national Data Centre Hub to support the high-performance, low-latency requirements of competitive gaming.
“The state is treating esports not as a passing trend, but as a structured economic sector. Under the leadership of chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, the government is creating a launchpad where youth aspirations meet world-class digital infrastructure. The Grand Finale in Visakhapatnam is a clear message that Andhra Pradesh is ready to lead the digital future by providing the speed, stability, and scale the industry demands,” said Ramprasad Reddy.
The Indian Super Gaming League (ISGL) represents India’s first franchise-based esports league, an event designed to bridge the gap between traditional sports and the digital gaming revolution. Founded by Shantanu Basu and Gautam Badalia, the league operates on a professional sports model through strategic partnerships with premier brands such as Mumbai City FC and Chennaiyin FC. This merit-driven ecosystem features a tournament cycle across a diverse range of titles, including FC 26, Cricket 26, CODM, Chess, and FAU-G, culminating in a high-energy live finale.
Beyond the finale, the government revealed a long-term roadmap for permanent infrastructure, including high-performance gaming labs and dedicated tournament arenas. By integrating professional gaming into its state-level industrial framework, Andhra Pradesh is ensuring that every talented gamer in India sees the state as their gateway to the global competitive stage.
