Telangana Sub-Junior hockey team captain K Veena and boys’ team player Harsh Kumar Goumte have been selected for the Indian camp which will be held at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre Bhopal from April 19. The Indian girls’ and boys’ teams to take part in the Under-18 Junior Asia Cup to be held in Japan from May 29 to June 6 will be selected during the Bhopal camp.
Both players were selected for the Indian camp based on their performances at the recently concluded Hockey India Sub-Junior championships in Ranchi and Rajgir.

The upcoming players from Telangana come from very poor background but still have managed to eke out a name for themselves at such a young age.
Veena is from Kamareddy district. Her father is a farmer and hence the family lacked the resources to help Veena pursue her sporting ambitions. However, her grit and strong passion for the game have helped her reach such heights at a young age.

Harsh Kumar, on the other hand, is from Secunderabad. His mother works as a daily wager in the Secunderabad area. He has been playing at the Gymkhana grounds for the last five years.
Telangana Hockey Association secretary Bheem Singh said it was a proud moment for the association as well as for the state that two youngsters from impoverished families have been called for the selection trials for the Indian team.
