An injury to Treesa Jolly has forced a late change in the Indian women’s badminton team for the Uber Cup 2026 as the women’s doubles pair has withdrawn from the tournament.
At world No. 30, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are the top-ranked Indian women’s doubles team and the duo’s absence will be a considerable blow to the country’s chances at the upcoming tournament.
Badminton Association of India (BAI) confirmed Treesa-Gayatri’s withdrawal on Friday and named Shruti Mishra-Priya Konjengbam as replacements.
The Indian players were last seen in action in March at the Swiss Open BWF Super 300 tournament. The duo had to pull out of their opening round match midway after Treesa suffered an injury. They also skipped the Badminton Asia Championship earlier this month.
Shruti Mishra-Priya Konjengbam are currently 48th in the badminton rankings and will join Kavipriya Selvam-Simran Singhi and Tanisha Crasto as the doubles’ options in India’s Uber Cup 2026 squad.
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu will lead India’s singles unit at the 2026 Uber Cup, which will be held in Horsens, Denmark, from April 24 to May 3 alongside the men’s Thomas Cup.
The Uber Cup is the world team championship for women’s badminton. Held every two years, it features national teams competing in a tie format featuring both singles and doubles matches
India have been drawn in tricky Group A for the Uber Cup 2026 alongside defending champions the People’s Republic of China, hosts Denmark and Ukraine.
India have won two bronze medals at the Uber Cup in the past, having made the semifinals in 2014 and then in 2016.
