Hyderabad bowlers and Tanmay Agarwal are making life difficult for their opponents in the Super league of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. After humiliating Mumbai in their previous game, Hyderabad inflicted a crushing six-wicket loss on Rajasthan in Pune on Sunday.
Tanmay slammed a 41-ball 73 to steer Hyderabad to 179 for four after CV Milind (3/25), Tanay Thyagaran (3/38) and Mohammed Siraj (2/23) ensured Rajasthan were restricted to a modest 178 for nine. With the IPL mini auction to be held on December 16, Tanmay has strengthened his case with back-to-back half-centuries.
Chasing a competitive score, Hyderabad lost Aman Rao (14) early on. Tanmay and Pragnay Reddy (18) took to score past the 50-run mark before the latter became Kamlesh Nagarkoti’s second wicket.
But Tanmay was in no mood to allow Rajasthan stage a comeback in the game. The southpaw, along with Rahul Buddhi, took the game away from their rivals. The duo added 95 for the third wicket to more or less seal the issue.
Rahul scored a 36-ball 55 with six fours and two sixes before falling to Manav Suthar. Tanmay, who scored 75 against Mumbai, continued with his rich vein of form. He struck eight fours and four sixes in his 73. He fell with just one needed for victory. Hyderabad made 179 for four in 17.1 overs and kept their slate clean.
Tanmay has 30 catches to his credit and has broken the record for most catches. He went past the record set by another southpaw B Sandeep (28).
With two wins out of two matches, Hyderabad is sitting pretty at the top of Group B with four points.
Milind, Thyagarajan and Siraj restrict Rajasthan
C V Milind
Earlier, skipper CV Milind won the toss and asked Rajasthan to bat first. The left-arm seamer made the first breakthrough in the second over of the game as he had Shubham Garhwal (4) caught by Tanmay.
Left-arm spinner Tanay Thyagarajan had the other opener Bharat Sharma (7) stumped by Pragnay and Deepak Hooda (6) was run out by Arfraz Ahmed to leave Rajasthan in a bad shape. The top three had departed with just 19 on the board.
Mahipal Lomror and wicketkeeper Kunal Singh Rathore salvaged the situation with a 35-run stand for the fourth wicket before Thyagarajan got into the act again. The spinner had Kunal stumped by Pragnay for 27.
Lomror and Mukul Choudhary (20) added 31 for the fifth wicket before Thyagarajan had the latter caught by Aman Rao.
At 85 for five, Rajasthan were in dire straits, but Lomror found an able partner in Kamlesh Nagarkoti and the duo took the score to 137 with a 52-run partnership for the sixth wicket before Mohammed Siraj got rid of Lomror for a topscore of 48 (35b; 1×4, 4×6). Three balls later, Siraj struck again to send Rahul Chahar (1) back to the pavilion.
Milind then got rid of Kamlesh (29) and Ashok Sharma (10) to ensure that Rajasthan made no comeback. They were restricted to 178 for nine.
Milind took three for 25 and Thyagarajan bagged three for 38. Siraj finished with figures of two for 23.
