PSBP player K Srinivas won the 3rd Maharashtra Open Carrom Challengers Trophy, organized by Maharashtra Carrom Association at the Shri Halari Visa Oswal Samaj Hall in Dadar, Mumbai, on January 30.
In the final, Srinivas defeated Abhishek Chavan of Maharashtra 9-20, 23-0, 25-4. After losing the first board quite easily at 9-20, Srinivas pulled up his socks and gathered his wits. He took the challenge up and slammed Abhishek in the next two boards, which he won 23-0 and 25-4 to pocket the cash award of Rs 1.5 lakh. Abhishek had to be content with Rs 1 lakh.
K Srinivas is a former world champion and World Cup silver medallist in the last edition of the World Cup. He is also a four-time Senior National champion and has won many international medals
The third place was won by international player Md Arif of Uttar Pradesh. He defeated Chand Yusuf Shaik of Maharashtra 27-8, 16-12 to take home a cash award of Rs 75,000. A total of Rs 8 lakh was distributed to the top 32 players.
In this tournament, 501 players from across the country and some from Maldives and Sri Lanka, participated. It’s a very challenging and tough tournament.
Srinivas, who hails from Telangana, is a former world champion and World Cup silver medallist in the last edition of the World Cup. He is also a four-time Senior National champion and has won many international medals.
