The Indian tricolour fluttered in Germany on Sunday as PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen made it a memorable double by sweeping the singles titles of the Hylo Open 2026 badminton tournament at the Saarlandhalle in Saarbrucken, Germany, on Sunday.
This is the first time in four years that two Indians have won two titles at the same BWF World Tour event at the Super 500 level or above. The last such occasion was at the India Open in 2022, when Lakshya Sen won the men’s singles title and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty claimed the men’s doubles crown.
In the women’s singles title decider, Sindhu, the second seed and ranked eighth in the world, took just 39 minutes to brush aside world No. 25 Line Kjærsfeldt of Denmark 21-12, 21-14 to emerge queen of Hylo.
Putting behind the final loss in the previous tournament, Sindhu, who was playing her second final on the trot, took control of the match early. The first game was tied at five-all before Sindhu shifted gears and ran away with the opener.
I didn’t give her a chance, says Sindhu
In the second game, the Indian shuttler, who had lost just once to her Danish opponent in seven meetings heading into Sunday’s match, never fell behind and comfortably wrapped up the BWF Super 500 title.

“I think it was important for me to give my 100% irrespective of who the opponent was. We’ve played a lot of times and for me it was important that I focused on every point. I think I took the lead from the beginning and I didn’t give her a chance,” Sindhu said after the match.
“It has been an amazing two weeks I would say. Hats off to my whole team, we’ve been planning accordingly. As you keep growing, it’s important to get your things better and be smarter in what you choose. But I think at the same time it was important for me to just stay calm. More than anything, there is still room to improve,” she added.
Sindhu on a roll this season
This was Sindhu’s second title on tour this year after the Japan Open Super 750 in July, which was her first individual crown since December 2024. Overall, she now has seven BWF World Tour titles to her name. Sindhu has been on a roll his season and now looks to be among the Top 6 in the world next week.
This is the first season since 2022 in which Sindhu has won multiple BWF World Tour titles. The two-time Olympic medallist had also played the final at the French Open last week but lost to world No. 1 and Paris 2024 champion An Se-young of the Republic of Korea.
Lakshya downs Christie in final
Later in the day, seventh seed and world No. 14 Lakshya Sen defeated the sixth-ranked Jonatan Christie of Indonesia 21-17, 21-10 in 39 minutes to bag his second Hylo Open crown. His first was in 2019 when the tournament was rated Super 100.

The Indian shuttler started well and troubled Christie with his deft net shots to take an 18-10 lead. However, the Indonesian responded with seven straight points to reduce the deficit to just one.
Lakshya, who had finished runners up at the All England Open earlier this year, then kicked on at the right moment to take the first game before dominating the second in a rather one-sided affair.
The win brought Lakshya level with Christie in the head-to-head record at 4-4 and secured his fifth World Tour title. He also has two Super 100 crowns to his name. “It’s been quite some time since I’ve won a tournament, so it feels really good to play this well. The last two matches that I played were really top quality opponents and I managed to beat them convincingly. I’m happy with the way I played and really happy to win a tournament,” said Lakshya about his performance at HYLO.
