SATG officials laud speed skater Pranav, say his case will be considered for financial help

Telangana’s promising short track speed skater and national gold medallist Pranav Madav Surapaneni met the Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG) vice chairman & managing director Dr A Sonibala Devi and SATG chairman Shiva Sena Reddy at the SATG office in Hyderabad on Monday.

Pranav recently delivered an impressive performance at the Asian Short Track Championship 2026, securing one silver and two bronze medals, adding another major international achievement to his growing sporting career. He has also established himself as a leading Indian short track skater by winning gold medals in multiple categories at the National Championships.

During the meeting, the SATG leadership congratulated and appreciated Pranav for his podium finishes at the Asian Championship and his continued achievements at the national and international levels. They also appreciated his commitment to representing Telangana and India in the international arena.

Pranav informed the SATG leadership about his upcoming international competitions, training requirements and long-term sporting goals. Significantly, Pranav is among the Indian skaters who have achieved the qualifying standard for the Senior World Tour, which forms an important part of the international pathway towards the 2030 Winter Olympic qualification.

Sonibala Devi enquired in detail about Pranav’s coaching programme, training schedule, international exposure, practice facilities, upcoming competitions and overall requirements for continuing his international career. She also sought details regarding the support required for his high-level training and participation in international events.

The SATG VC & MD assured Pranav and his family that his case would be considered for financial assistance under the new Telangana Sports Policy, subject to the applicable policy provisions and procedures.

Shiva Sena Reddy also appreciated Pranav’s achievements and encouraged him to continue his hard work towards achieving higher international goals.

The chairman further assured that the case would be taken forward for providing financial support under the new sports policy, with the objective of encouraging talented athletes from Telangana who are bringing recognition to the State and the country.

Pranav expressed his gratitude to the SATG leadership for their positive response and encouragement. He also thanked chief minister of Telangana A Revanth Reddy for his vision and leadership in strengthening sports development in Telangana and for promoting a sports-friendly environment under the new Telangana Sports Policy.

Pranav’s achievements and the support extended by the State sports authorities are expected to provide further encouragement to young athletes across Telangana to pursue excellence at national and international levels.
