Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG) successfully concluded a series of sports and fitness programmes conducted across the Telangana from August 28 to 30 as part of the National Sports Day celebrations.
The events were organized in line with the Government of India’s theme, “Khelega Bharat – Jeetega Bharat.” The programmes were held across all 32 districts headquarters and at various sports grounds and stadiums in Hyderabad.
Young athletes, students, sports enthusiasts, women, and members of the public participated in large numbers. District sports authority’s, public representatives, sports associations, and voluntary organizations actively supported the successful conduct of the events.
On August 28, the birth anniversary of Indian hockey legend and national sporting icon Major Dhyan Chand was commemorated. Awareness programmes highlighting his contributions to Indian sports, the importance of sportsmanship, and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle were organized across the state.
On August 29, National Sports Day was observed through the statewide “Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein” initiative. A variety of sporting events, including kho-kho, kabaddi, volleyball, basketball, handball, and athletics competitions, were conducted. Special activities such as the “29 Challenge,” “Pass the Ball Challenge,” and “Meet the Champions” programme were also organized. Women, youth, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities enthusiastically participated, making the celebrations a grand success.
As part of the concluding events on August 30, “Special Sundays on Cycle,” runs, and walkathons were organized to promote fitness and health awareness among the public. These activities aimed to encourage physical fitness, healthy living, and greater participation in sports.
Officials of the Sports Authority of Telangana stated that the three-day celebrations were organized with the objective of promoting sports awareness among youth, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and extending the message of the Fit India Movement to the grassroots level. They noted that the enthusiastic response witnessed across the state would further strengthen Telangana’s sporting culture and inspire greater participation in sports and fitness activities.
