The Annual summer coaching camps, supervised by the Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG), commenced on April 24 and will continue till June 6 in all the stadiums across the twin cities of Hyderabad as well as the 33 districts of Telangana state.

SATG stated that these camps have received an overwhelming response from young athletes. In the twin cities alone, more than 2,000 participants have already registered so far through online and are actively taking part in the various camps.

These camps are being successfully held at major venues such as Gachibowli Stadium, LB Stadium, Gymkhana Grounds, Saroor Nagar Indoor Stadium, Yusufguda KVBR Indoor Stadium, Osmania University Cycling Velodrome, and Hussain Sagar Water Sports Training Center.

For nearly four decades, the Sports Authority of Telangana has been organizing summer coaching camps, identifying and nurturing many talented athletes. Renowned sportspersons like Sania Mirza, Saina Nehwal, Mithali Raj, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Pullela Gopichand received their early training through such initiatives.

Camps meant to promote physical and mental health

Officials stated that these camps not only promote physical health through sports but also contribute to mental development, encouraging students to stay away from excessive mobile phone use, online games, and computers during summer holidays.

Compared to many private coaching centers, the SATG provides high-quality training at affordable fees, with experienced coaches and international-standard facilities, making it accessible to middle-class families.

Yoga and Zumba sessions for parents

To encourage interest in sports, the camps are designed to attract not only students but also their parents. Free yoga and Zumba training sessions are being offered to parents. These programs received tremendous response last year and are being continued this year as well.

This year, more sports disciplines are being included than before. Additionally, unlike previous years when camps were limited to district headquarters, they are now being extended to several town-level centers.

The honorarium for assistant coaches has been increased from last year to encourage experienced sportspersons to participate as trainers.

Students and aspiring athletes are encouraged to register online for these camps. The collected data will also be used for future sports development initiatives.

Encouraging youth to take up sports

As per the directions of chief minister Revanth Reddy and sports minister Vakiti Srihari, these camps are being conducted on a large scale to promote sports, especially among rural youth. SATG chairman Shivasena Reddy stated that arrangements have been made to ensure maximum participation from students and young athletes. He added that participant data is being systematically recorded, along with details of assistant coaches.

He further explained that due to the Telangana government’s sports promotion policies, awareness about sports is increasing among students, which is why these camps are receiving such a strong response.
