Yuvraj Samra paves the way for Amsterdam Flames’ maiden victory in ETPL 

Amsterdam Flames announced themselves with a convincing seven-wicket victory over Glasgow Cosmic in Match 12, chasing down 172 with 19 balls to spare at Voorburg Cricket Club, Netherlands, to claim their first win of the ETPL campaign.

Glasgow Cosmic won the toss and elected to bat, with George Munsey and Jason Roy immediately making the most of the opportunity. The pair combined aggression with control throughout the powerplay and middle overs, putting the Amsterdam attack under sustained pressure.

Munsey led the way with an excellent 67 from 49 balls, striking five fours and two sixes, while Roy contributed a brisk 38 from 30. Together, they added 102 runs for the opening wicket, becoming the first opening pair in ETPL history to record a century partnership.

Their stand gave Glasgow early control and established a strong platform for the remainder of the innings. Amsterdam eventually managed to break the partnership, but the damage had already been done. Liam Livingstone added 17, while Matthew Cross provided a late injection of momentum with 23 from just 11 balls.

Glasgow finished their 20 overs on 171 for eight, setting Amsterdam a challenging target of 172.

Amsterdam reply in style

The Flames, however, responded with a chase that steadily took the game away from the Cosmic. Yuvraj Samra provided the foundation with an excellent 73 from 32 balls, combining measured strokeplay with timely aggression. Bas de Leede added 26 from 23, helping Amsterdam maintain control through the middle overs before he was dismissed by Keshav Maharaj.

That breakthrough gave Glasgow a brief opening, but Amsterdam’s batting order ensured there was no sustained comeback. Tim David continued to push the scoring rate as the target came within reach, with Scott Edwards providing valuable support. The Flames kept the required rate under control and avoided giving Glasgow the sequence of wickets they needed to turn the contest.

Amsterdam eventually reached 177 for three in 16.5 overs, completing the chase with 19 balls remaining and securing their first victory of the ETPL campaign.

Glasgow will take plenty of positives from the opening partnership, with Munsey and Roy providing the platform for a total of 171. However, the Cosmic were unable to convert that strong start into enough scoreboard pressure, as Amsterdam’s bowlers kept striking at key moments through the remainder of the innings.

For the Flames, the victory provides a significant boost to their campaign. They chased with control throughout, keeping wickets in hand and ensuring the target never became out of reach.
