Telangana’s Rajkumar wins title at 6th Nagpur All India Fide-rated below 1700 chess tourney

TSWREIS alumni Rajkumar of Telangana emerged as champion in the 6th Nagpur All-India FIDE-rated below 1700 chess tournament 2026, held from September 4 to 7, 2026, at Nagpur.

Rajkumar delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 8.5 points out of 9 rounds and remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. He secured the first position and a cash prize of ₹50,000 among 547 participants.

Rajkumar pursued his schooling from 5th to 10th class at the Social Welfare Residential School, Sirpur, and completed his Intermediate education at the Social Welfare College, Ichoda.

He received his chess training at the Chess Academy, Shaikpet, under coach Shivakumar.

His journey from a Social Welfare Residential School to becoming an All-India FIDE-Rated Tournament Champion is an inspiration to students pursuing excellence in sports.

Congratulating Rajkumar, coach Shivakumar and principal Balaswamy on this remarkable achievement, Dr Rama Laxman, chairman, Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree & Junior Colleges PDs and PETs Association, along with association leaders Narsaiah, Neeraja, Chander and Harikishan, appreciated their dedication and achievement. They described the victory as a proud moment for Telangana and TSWREIS.
