Prince, Ram Charan hit centuries for Hyd; Delhi make a spirited reply

Prince and Ram Charan slammed centuries to put Hyderabad on top against Delhi in their U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy match at the ACA Cricket Stadium in Mangalagiri on Wednesday.

At close of play on the second day, Delhi made a spirited reply to be 185 for two.

Resuming at their overnight score of 353 for four, Hyderabad batters went about piling on the runs. Prince, who was batting on 67, continued from where he left the previous night. Prince and Ram Charan added 132 off 175 balls for the fifth wicket with Prince scoring 55 of those. Ram Charan contributed 72 to the partnership.

Prince finally fell after scoring 122 off 240 balls with 16 hits to the fence. He was stumped by Navneet Solanki off Vedant Sehwag.

Guru Vidwan kept Ram Charan company and ensured that his partner completed his century. Ram Charan scored 29 of the unbroken 31-run partnership for the sixth wicket. He remained unbeaten on 101 off 94 balls with nine fours and four sixes. Hyderabad declared their innings closed at 516 for five.

Delhi began their chase positively with openers Parath Dabas and Abhishek Chahal being untroubled by the rival bowlers. The duo struck half-centuries and added 138 for the opening wicket before Dabas was run out by Ved Reddy after scoring 72 off 141 balls with 10 fours and two sixes.

Ved Reddy also had a hand in the next dismissal as he had Hriman Kapoor (0) caught by Prince.

However, Hyderabad found no further success as Abhishek and Abeer Sudan saw their side through for the day. Abhishek was batting on 72 off 173 balls with eight fours and giving him company was Sudan on 30 off 24 balls with five fours. They have already added 46 for the unbroken third wicket.

Sathvik and Harsha prop up Andhra fightback

T Harsha Sai Sathvik and skipper K Bhanu Sri Harsha strung an unbroken century partnership for the third wicket to stay alive in their Vijay Merchant Trophy match against Karnataka at the BSP Cricket Stadium in Bhilai on Wednesday.

At stumps on the second day, Andhra were 189 for two with Sathvik batting on 84, who faced 138 balls and hit seven fours and a six, and Harsha on 88, who hit nine fours and three sixes off 105 balls. They have already added 165 off 212 balls for the third wicket.

Andhra didn’t have the best of starts as openers KNV Koswhik (2) and Dasari Henry Martin (10) were sent back to the pavilion with just 24 on the board.

However, Sathvik and Harsha steadied the innings and ensured that they live for another day to fight it out for the first innings lead.

Earlier, Karnataka made 473 for nine declared with Syaamantak making a 167-ball 92 with 11 fours and two sixes.

Aaryansingh N Chavda went on to complete his century. Chavda and Anirudh had added 96 for the sixth wicket.

Aditya Jha and Chavda continued with the onslaught as they added 131 off 141 balls for the seventh wicket. Chavda scored 119 off 150 balls with 13 fours and five sixes. Aditya remained unbeaten on 65 off 83 balls with seven fours and a six.
