Unseeded Prayag Patel stunned sixth seed Devansh Kamboj in the boys’ singles second round of the Tirumala Sreedhar Garu ATF 14 & U Grade A (South Asia) tennis tournament at Lake View Tennis Academy in Hyderabad.
Prayag was in his best elements as he toyed with his seeded rival. Prayag won the first game at 6-1 and took the second at 6-2 to advance. Top seed Puneeth Manohar had no problems in getting past Nirvaan Margana as he coasted to a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
Fourth seed Aarav Chhallani, however, had to wage a grim battle before overcoming a fighting S Shivaraj. In what was a closely fought encounter, both players dished out exhilarating tennis. Aarav managed to edge Shivaraj in the first set at 7-6 (4), but Shivaraj managed to turn the tables in the second set and carved out a 6-4 win. In the decider, Aarav pulled up his socks and gave Shivaraj a lesson or two on way to a 6-3 win.
Eighth seed L Kowitwatthanachai had an easy outing against Laqshya Tripathi as he won 6-1, 6-1.
In the girls’ second round, P Vattaprambil stunned eighth seed Krishika Gautam 6-2, 6-4. Other seeded players in action on the day had easy outings. Top seed P Ramesh defeated Shaurya Patil 6-4, 6-3, third seed P Daungkhiaw defeated Aaradhana Tehlan 6-2, 6-4, fourth seed Zoha Qureshi got the better of Tamanna Nair 6-4, 6-4 and fifth seed Sarena Gahlot downed Trisha Bhosale 6-3, 6-1.
