Norman Isaac appointed event director of FIBA Under-18 Asia Cup in Ahmedabad

The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) has appointed Norman Isaac as event director of the prestigious FIBA Under-18 Asia Cup 2026 for men to be held at at Veer Savarkar Indoor Stadium, Naranpur, Ahmedabad in Gujarat, from August 13 to 23.

The tournament will feature participation from the top 16 national teams across Asia & Oceania, with the top four teams qualifying for the FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup 2026, thereby underscoring its international significance.

“We look forward to your positive response and to working closely with FIBA Asia for the successful conduct of this championship by sharing your expertise and vast experience of being FIBA Technical Delegate. As well as having assisted Basketball Federation of India in similar role in many international events conducted previously in India and abroad,” says the letter issued by Kulvinder Singh Gill, secretary general of BFI.

“Sir, you are requested to kindly make it convenient to attend the international event on the mentioned dates in the interest of the sports and basketball in particular. Your continued support and cooperation is highly appreciated,” the letter adds.

Norman Isaac is the chairman, Technical Commission, Basketball Federation of India. He is also the secretary of The Hyderabad District Basketball Association.

Norman Isaac is a veteran basketball administrator and is recognized as an astute International FIBA Technical Delegate and FIBA Commissioner. He played his first Senior Nationals in Ludhiana in 1981 and represented Andhra Pradesh till 1992. After clearing Referee BFI ‘B’ Panel in 1993; and BFI ‘A’ Panel in 1996 he became a FIBA Referee in 2001. He was appointed FIBA Commissioner in Muscan, Oman in 2006. Later, he went on the become the first Indian ever to be promoted by FIBA as Technical Delegate (TD) after clearing tests in Doha, Qatar.
