Narayanpet down Mahbubnagar 2-1 to emerge Telangana state under-17 football champions
Narayanpet scored a hard-fought 2-1 win over Mahbubnagar in the final of the Telangana State Level Under-17 Boys Football Tournament for the 65th Subroto Mukherjee Cup at the Govt College of Physical Education, Gaganmahal in Hyderabad on Monday (August 31, 2026).
After a series of tough and closely contested knockout matches, Mahbubnagar and Narayanpet reached the final. In the highly exciting final match, Narayanpet defeated Mahbubnagar to emerge as the Telangana state champions.
With this victory, Narayanpet qualified to represent Telangana state at the national-level Subroto Cup scheduled to be held in New Delhi from September 14, 2026.
Narayanpet struggle against Komarabheem
In the semifinals, Narayanpet had to wage a grim battle before overcoming Komarabheem 5-4 via the tiebreaker. Mahbubnagar, on the other hand, scored a comfortable 2-1 win over Kamareddy.

The quarterfinals too were keenly fought affairs. Narayanpet overcame a fighting Karimnagar 1-0 and Kamareddy too had to fight past a gritty Hanamkonda side. They won 1-0.
On the other hand, Mahabubnagar scored a resounding 3-0 win over Sangareddy and Komarabheem defeated Jangaon with a similar scoreline.
A total of 17 winnings teams of their respective districts of Telangana participated in the tournament to compete as state champion and to qualify for Nationals.
All the participating districts displaying excellent football skills, discipline and competitive spirit. The matches throughout the three days were highly competitive and exciting, with every team giving its best to progress to the next round.
The tournament was conducted smoothly and successfully under the guidance of Srinivas Goud, organizing secretary, and the convenor team comprising Syed Alamdar Raza (PD, AIFF B’ license holder), P Raju (PD) Rafiq (PD) and Sami (PD).
