Mahbub Nagar scored a comfortable 43-run victory over Karimnagar in the second phase of the Kaka Venkatswamy Memorial Inter-District T20 League at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad, on Monday night.
Electing to bat first, Mahbub Nagar made a competitive 182 for six in their 20 overs. Abdul Rafeay bin Abdullah scored an unbeaten 90, the topscorer of the match. Captain Srikanth Nayak made 30 and David scored 24 to prop up the total. Shaumik Kapoor took four for 34 to halt the Mahboob Nagar progress.
In reply, Karimnagar were restricted to 139 for eight in 20 overs with T Harish taking three for 11 and Rakesh Nayak grabbing three for 11. Vignesh topscored with 36 and Ruthvik Surya made 30. Shaumik Kapoor chipped in with a useful 29 but all their efforts could not help Karimnagar reach the target.
In another match, Medak scored a 50-run win over Warangal. Batting first, Medak made 191 in their allotted 20 overs. Vikram Patel scored 45, while Akil Rathod made 43 and Sridhar K added 38 to the total. Rishiyanth Panthagani took three for 25 for Warangal.
In reply, Warangal could manage only 141 for eight with Rahul making a topscore of 27. Vikram Patel took two for six.
Earlier, the second phase of the tournament was inaugurated at the RGIC stadium. Telangana state labour and employment minister Dr G Vivek Venkataswamy was the chief guest. Vivek, who also served as president of the HCA, is also the president of Visaka Industries, which is sponsoring the tournament. Gutha Sukender, chairman of the Legislative Council, HCA acting president Daljit Singh, joint secretary Basavaraju, senior member Prakash Chand Jain and other officials were present at the inauguration ceremony.
A total of 10 districts from Telangana state are competing in the tournament. Around 49 matches will be played across various districts of the state, including Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Siddipet, Ramagundam, Warangal and Mahbubnagar.
The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), in the near future, is planning to conduct an Inter-District T20 League for women cricketers of the Telangana state. The objective is to promote and develop cricketing skills among women of the state.
