SSGF Hyderabad registered a massive innings and seven runs victory over Karnataka in the final of the fifth edition of Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma National Cricket Championship at the Hotspot cricket grounds in Chilkur, Hyderabad, on Tuesday.
Batting first, Karnataka were shot out for a paltry 73 in 30.5 overs with Hrishikesh Goud doing the most damage with his five for 23 figures. Adarsh Deshmukh took two for seven and Goteti Sravan claimed two for five to decimate the Karnataka innings.
SSGF batters then went on a rampage as they piled up the runs. They made 351 in 69.1 overs as skipper B Lohitesh Reddy led from the front. He scored 105 of those runs off 105 balls with 17 boundaries and one over it. He was ably supported by Hrishikesh Goud, who made a fine 87, and P Manikanta, who contributed 61. Adarsh Deshmukh made 34 to bolster the total.
In their second innings, Karnataka batters fared much better as they went on to make 271 in 102.2 overs. Lakhan fought well on way to scoring a super century. He made 102 and Hamza contributed 68 to the total but it was not sufficient to make SSGF bat again. They fell short by seven runs.
Adarsh Deshmukh took three for 50, while Rakesh (2/17), G Savan (2/56) and Charan (2/32) took two wickets apiece to bowl their side to a comprehensive victory.
Dr Faheemuddin Khaja, principal, Crescent Model English School, and Mohammed Hussain, cricket analyst, were guests at the prize distribution function.
The event was organized by School Sports & Games Federation (SSGF) to commemorate the 26th death anniversary of former President of India Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma.
