B Kiran Kumar and A Sonal won the men’s and women’s singles 40+ titles at the 6th Shree Gujarati Seva Mandal Telangana State Ranking & Veterans Table Tennis Tournament in Secunderabad.
In the men’s singles 40+ final, B Kiran Kumar of HDTTA defeated M Kanak Singh also of HDTTA 3-1. In what turned out to be keenly contested final, Kiran and Kanak puat up a solid performance. Kiran, however, managed to stay ahead of his rival by winning points at key junctures. He took the first two games at 11-8, 11-7 but suffered a blip on the radar.
In the third game, Kanak turned the tables on his opponent and cruised to a 11-3 win. But in the fourth game, Kiran roared back with a vengeance and won it 11-7 to lay his hands on the coveted title.

In the women’s singles 40+ final, A Sonal of AWA also scored a 3-1 win over B Kiranmai of HDTTA.
Unlike in the men’s singles final, Sonal came from behind to upstage her rival. Kiranmai began well by winning the closely-contested first game at 11-9. But that was all that she could do as Sonal tightened her belt and upped the ante.
Sonal thumped Kiranmai 11-5 to level the tie and thereafter there was no looking back. Sonal took the next two games at 11-8 and 11-5 to wear the crown.
In the other finals, HDTTA paddlers triumphed. Trithadip won the men’s 45+ title, while K Suresh Kumar took home the 55+ title. The other HDTTA winners were Harikrishna, N Taher, G Venkata Rangarao and C Srinivas.
The only title to elude the HDTTA paddlers in the men’s singles was the 50+ category. B Manohar Kumar of GTTA defeated Hitesh of LFHSA 3-0 to claim the honours in that age category.

Men’s singles 55+: K Suresh Kumar (HDTTA) beat M Srinivas Rao (HDTTA) 3-0 (11-2, 11-7, 11-9).
Men’s singles 60+: Harikrishna (HDTTA) beat Sirajuddin (HDTTA) 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-7).
Men’s singles 65+: N Taher (HDTTA) beat S V Praveen Kumar (HDTTA) 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-6).
Men’s singles 70+: G Venkata Rangarao (HDTTA) beat Lalit Mohan (HDTTA) 3-0 (11-6, 11-9, 11-8).
Men’s singles 80+: C Srinivas (HDTTA) beat D Devendra Nath (HDTTA) 3-0 (11-3, 11-9, 11-4).
