Kanna struck the all-important goal to help Jawahar Soccer Club (JSC), a team based in Secunderabad Cantonment area, score a 1-0 win over P Babu Veteran Avadi Chennai in the final of the 3rd South Indian Veteran Football Tournament held at the Nazareth College of Commerce in Chennai on Monday.
Jawahar Soccer Club, thus, were able to defend their title in the prestigious tournament where 16 teams took part. Being the defending champions, Jawahar Soccer Club were directly seeded into the quarterfinals and produced some brilliant football right through the championship.
In the quarterfinals, Jawahar Soccer Club scored a 1-0 win over Evergreen Chennai with Janardhan scoring the winning goal.
In the semifinals, Jawahar Soccer Club were stretched by FUC XI Chennai and the match had to be decided via the tie-breaker. Jawahar Soccer Club pulled off a 4-2 win with Habib, Julian, Akhilan and Srinivas scoring for the winners.
In the final, which was a keenly contested affair, both teams fought tooth-and-nail and Kanna’s strike made all the difference.
Jawahar Soccer Club goalkeeper Habib was given the Best Player award for his excellent performance in the tournament.
