Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand had to bow out of the Swiss Open 2026 badminton tournament after Treesa suffered an injury during their opening round women’s doubles match in St Jakobshalle, Basel, on Tuesday.

The Indian players were trailing 7-13 against Chinese Taipei’s Hu Ling Fang and Jheng Yu Chieh in the opening game when they had to pull out.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who are ranked fourth in the men’s doubles, meanwhile, had to dig deep to see out Singapore’s Eng Keat Wesley Koh and Junsuke Kubo by a 21-19, 21-19 scoreline.

Asian Games champions Sat-Chi, who came into the BWF Super 300 tournament having suffered an opening round exit from the England Open, started brightly before the 45th-ranked Singaporean pair mounted a comeback. Level at 19-all, the Indian pair found the late drive to close out the game.

The second game mirrored the first as the Indians once again clinched the game coming from a 19-19 scoreline and with it the badminton match which lasted 40 minutes.

Satwik-Chirag, the top seeds, will face the Japanese pair of Hiroki Okamura-Kyohei Yamashita in their second-round clash.

Earlier, India’s Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun also advanced after defeating Chinese Taipei’s Chen Zhi Ray and Lin Yu Chieh 21-16, 24-22 in a 33-minute-long encounter. They will face another Chinese Taipei pair, Chen Cheng Kuan and Lin Bing-Wei, in the next round.

HS Prannoy, former champion Kidambi Srikanth, along with Malvika Bansod and Unnati Hooda, will start their Swiss Open campaign from Wednesday.

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has opted to skip the Super 300 meet and so has Lakshya Sen, who made it to the final of the All England Open last week.
