Hyderabad women crash to 19-run loss to Uttarakhand in pre-quarterfinals

Hyderabad women crashed to a 19-run loss against Uttarakhand in the pre-quarterfinals of the BCCI’s U-19 one-day trophy at the Veerangan Cricket Academy ground in Pune on Thursday.

Replying to Uttarakhand’s competitive 276 for five, Hyderabad fought valiantly through Sree Grandha (68) and K Srivalli (31) but fell short of the target. They were bowled out for 257.

Uttarakhand skipper Bhoomi Umar won the toss and elected to bat first. Her openers Dhriti and Nirjala Mahra gave the side a good start by adding 48 for the first wicket before Sree Grandha trapped Dhriti (21; 34 balls, 2×4, 1×6) leg before.

Sree Grandha then had Nirjala caught by K Nidhi after the batter had made 31 and had added 25 for the second wicket with Tanvi Tomar. Nirjala’s 31 came off 51 balls with four boundaries.

Tanvi too control of the innings and with Kareena took the score to 105 before she was stumped by K Nidhi off N Babitha for 35 which came off 40 balls and contained six fours.

Kareena (10) fell soon after as she was bowled by Jazmine Gill. At 111 for four, Uttarakhand were in a spot of bother, but Bhoomi and wicketkeeper Sona took the game away from Hyderabad. The duo added 136 off 134 balls to put their team on top. Sona was the aggressive ofo the duo as she scored a 75-ball 79 before she was bowled by K Srivalli. She struck 11 fours and a six. Bhoomi, who played the sheet anchor role, contributed 47 to the fifth wicket partnership.

Bhoomi and Kanika gave the finishing touches to the innings by adding 29 off 20 balls to help Uttarakhand reach 276 for five. Bhoomi remained unbeaten on 54 off 69 balls with five fours and a six and Kanika made a quickfire 14-ball 22 with three fours.

The Hyderabad chase never got going as the batters failed to come to the party. They lost wickets at regular intervals with P Akshaya Reddy, batting at No.3, showing some spine.

Hyderabad were reduced to 105 for six in the 29th over and it looked as if it was all over. But V Prathiksha, who scored a 53-ball 58 with seven fours and a six, and Ch Deekhshitha (22) took the score to 139 before both of them fell in quick succession.

At 147 for eight, the battle seemed to be over. However, No.9 Sree Grandha and No.10 K Srivalli gave their rivals a mighty scare with a 90-run partnership off just 60 balls. Sree Grandha contributed 48 and Srivalli made 31. However, both of them were run out to end Hyderabad’s hopes of a miracle win. Four Hyderabad batters were run out in the innings. Sree Grandha’s 68 came off 52 balls with six fours and two sixes. Srivalli’s 31 came off 26 balls with three fours and a six.

Delhi women carve out four-wicket win over Madhya Pradesh

In another pre-quarterfinal match, Delhi women carved out a four-wicket win over Madhya Pradesh to enter the quarterfinals.

Madhya Pradesh’s top four batters played well to help their side reach 274 for five. Openers Aayushi and Tamanna had added 90 off 99 balls for the first wicket to set the tone.

Ishana Swami made an unbeaten 89 off 101 balls with nine fours and Tamanna Choudhary scored a 74-ball 66 with eight fours and a six. Skipper Aayushi Shukla too scored a half-century, 55 off 61 balls with 11 fours and Mahi Thakur scored 32 off 43 balls with four fours.

Delhi, on the other hand, did not have the best of starts but Archana, batting at No.3, struck a 70-ball 62 with seven fours and a six to put Delhi back on track.

Captain Purva (41; 46 balls, 6×4) and Archana added 92 off 95 balls for the fourth wicket. Archana followed suit soon and Delhi were 165 for five.

Delhi’s saviours turned out to be Samaira Raghav and Disha Nagar with the latter doing the bulk of the scoring. They added 92 off just 68 balls to take Delhi within sniffing distance before Disha Nagar fell for a 40-ball 58 with 10 boundaries.

Mayuri Singh joined Samaira and finished off the job. Samaira remained unbeaten on 37 off 35 balls with three fours and Mayuri made 12 off 9 balls with two fours as Delhi scored 275 for six in 47.4 overs.

Brief scores: Madhya Pradesh 274/5 in 50 overs (Aayushi Shukla 55, Tamanna Choudhary 66, Ishana Swami 89, Mahi Thakur 32; Ragini 3/62) lost to Delhi 275/6 in 47.4 overs (Archana 62, Purva 41, Samaira Raghav 37no, Disha Nagar 58).
