Hyderabad’s Hruthik Katakam will be India’s No. 1 player for the 2026 Junior Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying event. Hruthik secured this coveted spot by winning all five matches he played during the selection trials.
Ribhav Saroha and Tavish Pahwa are the other members of the team, while Rana Banerjee will serve as the team’s coach.
The Indian team will participate in the Junior Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying event to be held at Shymkent from May 18 to 23, 2026.
Hruthik hails from Sri Kanakadurga Nagar Colony in Chengicherla and is currently training at the Trinity Challengers Tennis Academy in Habsiguda. He is being supervised by coaches Henry Praveen and Ramakrishna. Former Davis Cup player Vishnuvardhan is guiding him as his mentor.
Hruthik delivered a stellar performance during the selection trials. He defeated Haryana’s Tavish 6-4, 6-3 and then downed Paranjay 7-5, 6-1. He also defeated Ribhav of Chandigarh 6-2, 6-0 and Andhra Pradesh’s Lakshya 6-4, 6-2. He also thrashed Divey of Haryana 6-0, 6-2.
The selection trials were conducted under the aegis of the All India Tennis Association (AITA) from March 28 to March 31, 2026, at the DLTA Stadium. The event was overseen by senior officials, including AITA secretary Anil Dhupar.
With an unbeaten and stellar performance, Hrithik secured the No. 1 spot in the national selections. He further demonstrated his prowess by winning both the singles and doubles titles at the recent ITF Junior Tournament held in Gurugram.
By proving his mettle at the national level, this young athlete from Hyderabad has brought great pride to the city.
