Playoff race reaches its climax as HCA’s TG20 heads into blockbuster knockout stage
After three weeks of high-quality cricket, thrilling finishes and standout individual performances, the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s TG20 is set for its biggest week yet. Four teams remain in contention as the inaugural season enters the playoffs, with every match now carrying the weight of a title on the line.
The playoffs begin on July 9 with the Eliminator between Ranga Reddy Risers and Karimnagar Diamonds. Later in the evening, unbeaten Hyderabad E-Champions will face Khammam Aces in Qualifier 1.
The winner of Qualifier 1 will secure a direct place in Sunday’s final, while the loser will get another opportunity in Qualifier 2 on July 10 against the winner of the Eliminator. The grand finale will be played on July 12 when the inaugural champions will be crowned.
Eliminator: Ranga Reddy Risers vs Karimnagar Diamonds
No team heads into the playoffs with greater momentum than Risers. Having found themselves on the brink of elimination heading into the final league fixture, Risers produced one of the greatest performances of the tournament, defeating Warangal Warriors by 161 runs to complete a stunning turnaround and book their place in the playoffs.

They have relied heavily on the consistency of Aditya Javvaji, who finished the league stage with 286 runs, while experienced spinner Aryan Cariappa has led the bowling attack with 11 wickets, including a match-winning four-wicket haul.
Karimnagar Diamonds, meanwhile, have enjoyed a campaign built on consistency and balance despite losing their first two matches. Tanmay Agarwal has been their standout performer, piling up 328 runs, including two centuries, while Chandan Sahani has added valuable runs in the middle order. Their bowling attack has been equally impressive, with Rathlavath Dinesh claiming nine wickets, while district star Narayana Teja and Shubham Sharma have chipped in with eight wickets each to provide excellent support.

With a place in Qualifier 2 on the line, both teams know there are no second chances. Risers carry momentum into the contest, while Karimnagar will back their balanced squad and big-match temperament.
Qualifier 1: Hyderabad E-Champions vs Khammam Aces
The second playoff promises to be a contest worthy of the final itself.
Hyderabad E-Champions have been the benchmark side of the tournament as the only unbeaten team through the league stage. Their success has been built on collective performances, with Abhirath Reddy enjoying a phenomenal campaign, scoring 418 runs at a staggering strike rate of 220, including a century. District player Ganesh Gadugu has been the perfect foil, contributing 224 runs while finishing unbeaten on three occasions.

With the ball, Ajay Dev Goud has been the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 16 wickets, while Pranav Varma has provided excellent support with nine wickets at an economy of just 6.8 runs per over.
Standing in their way are Khammam Aces, one of the most explosive batting sides in the tournament. Kodimela Himateja has led the run charts with 430 runs, including a century and four fifties, averaging an outstanding 107.5. Wafi Kachchhi and G Sai Krishna Reddy have consistently provided attacking starts throughout the league stage, making the Aces one of the most dangerous batting units in the competition.
Their bowling has been equally effective, with 16-year-old Ved Reddy emerging as the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker with 12 scalps, while skipper CV Milind has made an impact with nine wickets in just five matches.

League stage delivers unforgettable inaugural season
The inaugural edition of the TG20 has delivered exactly what fans hoped for — high-scoring encounters, last-over thrillers, dominant victories and dramatic twists in the race to the playoffs.
The tournament produced several unforgettable contests. Aces announced themselves with a commanding 20-run victory over Palamuru Strikers in the opening match before going on to feature in a string of high-scoring encounters. One of the defining moments of the league stage came when India’s T20I skipper Tilak Varma produced a breathtaking display for Medak Falcons, smashing a sensational century in a match that will long be remembered as one of the standout spectacles of the tournament.
Risers scripted the story of the league stage with a remarkable late surge. Entering the final round needing not only a win but a massive boost to their net run rate, the Risers stunned Warangal Warriors with a 161-run victory to snatch the final playoff berth in one of the most dramatic finishes of the tournament, courtesy an exemplary 43-ball 91 from Aaron George.

There was no shortage of individual brilliance either, with Kodimela Himateja and Abhirath Reddy producing breathtaking centuries, Tanmay Agarwal registering two hundreds, Aman Rao smashing the tournament’s highest individual score of 142, and several bowlers delivering match-winning spells.

As the tournament now enters its decisive phase, every run, wicket and catch could determine the destination of the inaugural Sreenidhi University TG20 trophy. Four deserving teams remain in the hunt, but only one will create history by becoming the league’s first-ever champions.

Thursday’s double-header will feature a vibrant Telangana cultural showcase led by the energetic Oggu Dollu drummers, followed by live performances from popular singers Madhu Priya, Bhole Shavali and Hanumant. On Friday, Qualifier 2 will be preceded by the traditional Dappulu dance performance, celebrating the state’s cultural heritage.
Grand finale on Sunday
The grand finale on Sunday promises to be a fitting celebration of cricket and culture. Hyderabad Cricket Association’s TG20 brand ambassador Vijay Deverakonda will be present for the title clash, while fans will be treated to colourful performances featuring Bonalu Kolatam, Kolatam, Bathukamma dance, Lambadi dance and Oggu dollu.
Popular playback singer Rahul Sipligunj will also perform live, adding to the festivities before an exhilarating sound, light and laser show, accompanied by pyrotechnics during the mid-innings break, lights up the stadium ahead of the crowning of the inaugural champions.
