Harshith M and Ayaan Khan Mohammed made it 1-2 for Pallavi Model School (Boduppal) in the boys’ 14 years age group in the UBS Athletics Kids Cup (UBS AKC) Finals at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday.
Harshith took the gold, and Ayaan bagged the silver, while Suraj Kumar of St Thomas High School (Medchal) had to be content with the bronze medal.
In the boys’ 15 years category, Srikanth T of Sri Gangotri Public School, Shaikpet Dargah, took the first prize. He was followed by Sameer Hussain Syed of Bright Concept High School, Ranga Reddy Nagar and Rahul Shetty of Gauthami Techno School, IDPL Lake finished third.
In the girls 15 years category, Varsha Thirupotu of Satyam International School, Meerpet clinched the first place. Sahithi Prudhvi of MNR High School, Chandanagar came second and Parveen Zeba of Government High School Police Boys, Amberpet was third.
In the 14 years category, Bista Srijena of Nagarjuna Grammar High School won the gold medal. Panuku Pranavi of Sloka Waldorf School, Aziz Nagar took home the silver and Bhuvaneswari G of Krishnaveni Talent School, Saroornagar, won the bronze.
The finale marked a grand celebration of youth athletics in the city. Around 500 selected young athletes, shortlisted from extensive preliminary rounds conducted across schools, participated in the finale. The event aimed to promote athletics at the grassroots level and encourage schoolchildren to adopt active and healthy lifestyles.
The young athletes aged 7 to 15 years competed in track and field events, including running, jumping, and throwing disciplines. All events were conducted under the supervision of trained coaches and certified officials, ensuring fair play, safety, and high standards of competition.
The successful completion of the UBS Athletics Kids Cup reflects UBS’s continued commitment to nurturing young talent and strengthening the foundation of athletics at the grassroots level.
The event was graced by the presence of several distinguished dignitaries, including Sridhar Babu, state IT minister, Vakiti Srihari Mudhiraj, sports minister, and Shiva Sena Reddy, chairman, Sports Authority of Telangana.
Matthais Schacke, head of UBS India ServCo and GOTO India, Daniel Schenker, CEO, DS Powerparts, and Petr Stastny, CEO, Diamond League, were also present. Their support and encouragement reinforced the importance of structured youth sports development.
