Hannah Green of Australia claimed a second Women’s World Championship crown on the LPGA Tour at the Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore on Sunday with her husband Jarryd Felton on the bag.
The 29-year-old reclaimed the title with a one-stroke win for a career seventh LPGA Tour victory, with a 14-under-par total of 274, holding off a late charge from American player Auston Kim.
The 2019 Women’s PGA Championship winner rated the victory one of her most memorable, with her husband stepping in as her caddie for this tournament. Felton, who is also a professional golf player, was a late replacement as Green’s usual caddie was unavailable.
“My caddie that I usually work with, he is actually trying to apply for a Green Card, and he can’t leave the US at the moment,” Green said after her victory. “So, it wasn’t really the plan (to have Felton as caddie) going into this season, but luckily, he was able to pick up the bag for me.
“He’s kind of put his clubs aside to look after me. It was absolutely a team effort out there today, and the last two weeks, really. It is very special to be able to share my seventh win, my favourite number, with my husband.”
Green nearly squandered her lead following a topsy-turvy back nine, which included three birdies and three bogeys, closing with a 69 to edge out Kim.
The Australian player hoped the winning combination with her husband would continue for her upcoming tournaments. “I am playing two more events in Australia, the Australian Open and the WPGA Championship, and he will be caddying for me then,” she said.
“Hopefully, all continues to go well because it is obviously working really well right now.”
