Manchester City, riding on an Erling Haaland strike, moved top of the English Premier League table for the first time since August 2025 with a narrow 1-0 victory at Burnley that relegated Scott Parker’s side.
On a significant night at both ends of the table, Man City followed up their home win over Arsenal with another Erling Haaland-inspired triumph to steal ahead of their title rivals on goals scored alone.
Haaland, who netted the winner against Arsenal, quickly put Man City in front, although the anticipated further goals did not follow in a frustrating if ultimately successful outing for the visitors.
Defeat for Burnley confirmed their demotion back to the Championship after a single season; they are still 13 points shy of 17th-placed West Ham United and now have only four matches remaining.
The Clarets could yet have a further role to play in the title race as they are still to visit Arsenal, on whom there is considerable pressure as Man City hit the front.
Longstaff finds equalizer for Leeds
Sean Longstaff scored an equaliser in the seventh minute of stoppage time as Leeds United moved nine points clear of the bottom three with a 2-2 draw at AFC Bournemouth.
Rayan thought he had secured three points for the Cherries in the 85th minute, but substitute Longstaff had other ideas as he lashed past goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic in the dying seconds.
Junior Kroupi opened the scoring on the hour mark after ‘keeper Karl Darlow kept things level heading into the break, but a James Hill own goal saw Leeds draw level soon after.
Second-half substitute Rayan swept in from Tyler Adams’ cross late on, only for another Leeds long throw to cause havoc and lead to an equaliser moments after Evanilson had a goal disallowed for offside.
Bournemouth missed the chance to go sixth, but now sit one point behind Brighton & Hove Albion, while Leeds, unbeaten in five Premier League matches, remain 15th.
