Govardhan bags a double in 35+ category, misses out on 40+ mixed doubles title

Damera Govardhan missed out on a triple at the Bharat Science MT-200 Hyderabad 2026, ITF World Masters Tour Seniors Ranking Tennis Tournament. Govardhan, however, had the joy of winning the men’s singles and doubles in the 35+ age category.

In the singles final, Govardhan had an easy outing against Ayyappa Tejomurthula as he won the final 6-2, 6-1.

However, in the semifinals, Govardhan had to wage a grim battle to get into the final. Govardhan had to dig deep into his resources to edge out Gourabdip Ghosh in a thrilling encounter.

Gourabdip was quickly off the blocks as he reeled off winners at will. Govardhan was caught unawares and succumbed as Gourabdip won the set 6-1.

But Govardhan recovered his wits and managed to stay with Gorabdip in the second set which went to the wire. Govardhan produced winners at key moments in the set to come through 7-6 and take the match into the third. Govardhan then stepped up the tempo and took the decider 10-5.

In the other semifinal, Ayyappa Tejomurthula had an easy outing against Utkarsh Phirke 6-2, 6-1.

In the doubles final, second seeds Govardhan and Venkatesh Chadala had no issues in upsetting the applecart of top seeds Sambeet Pradhan and Shashidhar Reddy Puchakayala as they romped to a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

In the semifinals, Govardhan and Venkatesh overcame a fighting Sandeep Bedejar and Utkarsh Phirake 6-4, 6-2. In the other semifinal, Sambeet and Shashidhar too had an easy outing against Nishanth Pokala and Rohit Nellipudi as they won 6-1, 6-2.
