After a day’s drama, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) on Sunday afternoon released the names of the Hyderabad Under-23 team which will take on Maharashtra in their fourth-round match of the BCCI CK Nayudu Trophy. What was the necessity to change the squad within a day’s time?
The Hyderabad Under-23 team will take on Maharashtra at the Deccan Cricket Ground in Pune from November 3 to 6.
On Saturday evening, the HCA had announced the list of players which had V Yashveer Goud in it. Yashveer has been earlier selected for the India Under-19 team for the Asia Cup.
Hyderabad’s Yashveer named in India Under-19 squad for Asia Cup to be held in Oman
Eight minutes later another mail was released in which Yashveer Goud was replaced with Ghazi Abbas. “Please note that the player’s name has been corrected to Ghazi Abbas in place of V Yashveer. The earlier mention of Yashveer was a typographical error,” said the revised HCA release.
However, after an hour’s time, the HCA sent another mail asking to ‘hold the earlier announcement’.
“With reference to the earlier communication regarding the Hyderabad Under-23 Men’s Team squad for the fourth match against Maharashtra in the ongoing BCCI C. K. Nayudu Trophy 2026–27 season, you are requested to keep the earlier team announcement on hold and refrain from publishing or circulating the same until further communication from HCA,” said the HCA release.
“The team announcement is currently being reviewed, and a revised communication will be shared in due course, if required,” it added.
Why was the review necessary?
Finally, on Sunday after the revised players’ list was released with Yash Satwalekar replacing Khush Agarwal from the original team announced on Saturday in the 15-member squad.
“The senior selection committee chairman and selectors have selected the following players for the Hyderabad Under-23 Men’s Team for the Fourth match against Maharashtra in the ongoing BCCI C. K. Nayudu Trophy 2026–27 season,” stated the revised release.
After the selectors had announced the squad on Saturday what was the need to review it? Why didn’t the selectors not ‘review’ the squad before announcing it? Who was reviewing the squad after the announcement of the team? Certainly, these are some questions to be answered by the HCA administrators.
