Devendar Reddy’s five-wicket haul went in vain as Income Tax crashed to a 48-run loss to Medak District in the pre-quarterfinals of the HCA B Division (2-day) League Championship in Hyderabad on Monday.
The two-day pre-quarterfinal match lasted just 75.1 overs as has been the case with many matches this season.
Batting first, Medak District lost a couple of early wickets before B Hishanth Prem Charan and Rathod Rahul Nayak steadied the innings. The duo added 62 off 64 balls before Rahul Nayak departed for 31.
Prem Charan too went after making a 42-ball 51 as both of them were consumed by Devendar Reddy.
After losing a few more wickets, Medak found a savior in Rolla Ruthwik, who alongwith K Shiva Kumar, took the score to 200. Ruthik and Shiva added 46 off 59 for the seventh wicket.
Medak finally folded up for 200 with Ruthwik making a 56-ball49 and Shiva getting 32. Spinner Devendar Reddy finished with figures of five for 43.
In reply, Income Tax found the going tough. They kept losing wickets at regular interval and none of the batters were able to put up a meaningful partnership which could threaten the Medak camp.

The highest partnership was for the seventh wicket as G Praneeth Kumar and Devendar Reddy put together 42 out of which Praneeth got 41.
Skipper Praneeth finished with 67 off 48 balls, while D Swaroop Kumar made 34. Income Tax were all out for 152 as Bavanaka Sandeep and Abhishek Kumar were unable to bat.

T Aaron Paul hit a century to put Mahmood in the driver’s seat against Nalgonda District. Batting first, Mahmood went on to make 322 for nine with Aaron Paul scoring 112 off 178 balls with 11 fours and Katta Akhil getting 79. In reply, Nalgonda were 4 for no loss.
Khush Agarwal (76 batting) and R Gowtham Raj Yadav (32 batting) shared an unbroken 80-run partnership for the fourth wicket which has given Mahadev the edge against Postal.
Postal, batting first, were bowled out for a modest 204 despite Nishanth Yadav Srikandula scoring 81. Nandala Aneesh bagged four for 25 for Mahadev.
In reply, Mahadev were strongly placed as they reached 143 for three at stumps. The need 62 more for victory and with seven wickets in hand, they would fancy their chances on the morrow.
N Sri Harsha bagged five wickets to restrict Sportive to a modest score but Ours were in some trouble by stumps.
N Sri Hasha took five for 30 as Sportive were bowled out for 227. M Varun Tej scored 77 and Karan Kumar Patnayak made 54 but Ours stole the honours.

However, Sportive hit back strongly and reduced Ours to 24 for two by stumps on the first day.
In the other pre-quarterfinal of the day, Vijay Hanuman made 229 and Rohit XI were 77 for three at stumps.
