CAG survive PSB scare, PNB hold defending champs PSPB, RSPB down TN Police 12-1 win

Last year’s runners-up Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) survived a mighty scare from Punjab & Sind Bank, while defending champions Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) were held by Punjab National Bank (PNB) to a 4-4 draw on the second day of the 6th Hockey India Senior Men Inter-Department National Championship 2026 at the Gachibowli Hockey Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday.

The first quarter was totally dominated by Punjab & Sind Bank as they attacked the rival citadel with frequent raids. Skipper Gautampal Singh struck the first blow in the 10th minute as he converted a penalty corner. Four minutes later, Yuvraj Singh made it 2-0 in favour of the bankmen through a penalty corner conversion.

A stung CAG rallied back superbly as they took charge of the proceedings in the second and third quarters. After being at the receiving end, CAG finally found their breakthrough at the fag end of the second quarter. Thrishul Ganapathi H struck off a penalty corner to make it 1-2.

Immediately after the break, Deepak scored in the 32nd minute to help CAG draw parity. Skipper Parmod converted a penalty stroke awarded to the team in the 43rd minute to help CAG take the lead for the first time in the match.

Manjeet made it 4-2 in the 46th minute but the bankers fought back as the last minutes of the game turned into a frenzy with both teams looking to score.

Prabhdeep Singh struck in the 55th minute to help Punjab and Sind Bank reduce the margin. However, two minutes later, Manjeet made it 5-3 in favour of CAG.

Punjab and Sind Bank did not give up hope even as there was hardly three minutes left on clock. Their efforts bore fruit as Sukhwinder Singh scored off a penalty corner in the dying moments, but it was not enough to earn a draw for the bankers. CAG took full points from the game with a 5-4 win, but they were made to sweat it out for the honours.

Defending champions Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSBP) were held by Punjab National Bank (PNB) to a 4-4 draw.

Till half-time, the champions were in cruise mood as they brooked no challenge from their rivals. They went into the break with a comfortable 3-0 margin.

PSPB were off to a flying start as Sudeep Chirmako struck off a penalty corner as early as the 2nd minute of play. Dipsan Tirkey ended the first quarter with another strike off a penalty corner in the 14th minute.

In the second quarter too, PSPB were right on top of their game. Dilbar Barla struck in the 30th minute to make it 3-0 in favour of PSPB.

However, the bankers turned the tide in the next two quarters as they took on the mighty PSPB and stunned them. Sachin Sachin struck in the 35th minute and Gursimran Singh converted a penalty stroke in the 42nd minute as the bankers stole the thunder in the third quarter.

Talwinder Singh made it 4-2 in favour of PSPB with a strike in the 51st minute but PSB fought back bravely to salvage a draw.

Prikshit Panchal scored in the 55th minute and Mahipal struck off a penalty corner in the 60th minute to deny PSPB full points from the game. It was quite an achievement from PNB to steal a point from the defending champions.

Sports Authority of India (SA), who had hammered Defence Sports Control Board 20-1 on the first day, cruised to a comfortable 5-0 win over Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) hammered Tamil Nadu Police 12-1 with Amandeep Lakra and Simranjot Singh scoring a hat-trick each

In other matches, the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) hammered Tamil Nadu Police 12-1. Amandeep Lakra and Simranjot Singh scored a hat-trick each, while Shreyas Dupe got a brace.

Food Corporation of India (FCI) continued with their winning ways as they posted a 4-0 win over Central Industrial Security Force with Nitin and Navraj Singh getting a brace each.

Central Secretariat scored a 5-1 win over Sashastra Seema Bal with Chandan Singh and Bharath Mahalingappa Kurtakoti getting two goals apiece.

Central Board of Direct Taxes scored a 5-2 win over Services Sports Control Board with skipper Karthi S leading from the front with a brace.

Arun Sahani starred in All India Police Sports Control Board’s 4-0 win over Steel Plant Sports Board. Sahani scored a hat-trick for his side.
