Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) survived a mighty scare as they came from 1-4 down to script a 5-4 win over Sports Authority of India (SAI) in the 6th Hockey India Senior Men Inter-Department National Championship 2026 at the Gachibowli Hockey Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday.
In other matches of the day, Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) scored an 8-1 win over Central Secretariat; Sashastra Seema Bal lost to ITBP Central Hockey Team 2-4; Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) hammered Defence Accounts Sports Control Board 10-0; Services Sports Control Board edged All India Police Sports Control Board 3-2; Steel Plant Sports Board drew with Union Bank of India 1-1; Food Corporation of India (FCI) lost to Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) 1-5 and Tamil Nadu Police fell to Canara Bank 2-3.
SAI give CAG a run for their money
In a thrilling encounter, last year’s finalist CAG found themselves at the receiving end of the stick in the first half of the game. But they rallied superbly in the next half to take full points from the match.
Skipper Parmod scored the first goal of the match in the 14th minute as CAG were 1-0 up in the first quarter. SAI upped the ante in the second quarter as Sunil struck twice (18th and 30th minutes) and Sunil Jojo scored in the 22nd minute as SAI went into the break with a 3-1 lead.

In the 34th minute, Sunit Lakra converted a penalty stroke to make it 4-1 in favour of SAI. A stung CAG then scripted an incredible revival with skipper Parmod leading from the front. Parmod scored off a penalty corner in the 35th minute and then Manjeet sounded the board in the 51st minute. Thrishul Ganapathi H scored the equalizer in the 52nd minute and Manjeet found the winner in the 56th minute to heave a sigh of relief.
In another Pool B match, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) hammered 10 goals past a hapless Defence Accounts Sports Control Board. Abhishek, Gurmehakdeep Singh and Mohd Wasiullah Khan scored a brace each.
In Pool A, Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) cruised to a resounding 8-1 win over Central Secretariat with Gurjot Singh and Sudeep Chirmako scoring two goals apiece.
ITBP Central Hockey Team rode on Rohit’s double strike to carve out a 4-2 win over Sashastra Seema Bal in their pool A match.
Services pip Police; Railways down FCI
In an engrossing Pool C match, Services Sports Control Board came from behind to pip All India Police Sports Control Board 3-2. Services took the lead in the 11th minute through a penalty corner by Amrit Tirkey but the Police team hit back strongly.

Arun Sahani struck twice on either side of the half-time to put the Police team in front. The policemen hung on to their 2-1 lead till the 42nd minute and absorbed the relentless pressure applied by Services.
Services found the equalizer in the 42nd minute through a penalty corner by Akshay Dubey and Selvaraj Kanagaraj found the winner in the 57th minute through another penalty corner.
In Pool D, Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) scored a 5-1 win over Food Corporation of India (FCI). FCI took the lead in the 5th minute as Navraj Singh scored off a penalty corner but, thereafter, FCI were at the receiving end.
RSPB upped the ante in the second quarter and there was no turning back. Yogember Rawat found the equaliser in the 27th minute and RSPB scored four more with Gursahibjit Singh getting a brace.
Raju Manoj Gayakwad struck two goals as Canara Bank, who were trailing 0-2 for most part of the game, came from behind to pip Tamil Nadu Police 3-2.
