There was no stopping Birla Blazers girls as they continued with their dominant performance in the Sub-Junior category of the Sub-Junior & Youth League 2026 for Boys & Girls conducted by The Hyderabad District Basketball Association at the YMCA Secunderabad on Saturday.
Birla Blazers thump Charminar Chargers 45-34 to win their second consecutive game
Birla Blazers have been in top form right through the week as they maintained a clean slate with another resounding victory. On Saturday, they produced another near-flawless display as they hammered Golconda Gladiators 34-14 to book their slot in the final.
It was a slow start with both teams being able to penetrate their rival defense, but poor finishing let them down. The scoring was understandably low as baskets were difficult to get for both the teams.
Golconda Gladiators scored four points through Anagha whereas Birla Blazers scored seven points through Pranavi and Tanvi. Thus, Birla Blazers led 7-4 at the end of the first quarter.
Dishi proves unstoppable for Birla
In the second quarter, Gladiators’ Aadya scored a 3-pointer as she garnered 6 points but it was Birla Blazers’ Dishi who was just unstoppable. Dishi netted all the 12 points (with two 3-pointers) scored by Birla Blazers to extend the lead 19-10 at half-time.
After change of ends, Birla Blazers tightened their defense and did not allow Golconda Gladiators any points and in turn scored 11 points. Thereby, they were able to end the quarter at 30-10.
In the final quarter too, Birla Blazers maintained the same rhythm and won the match comfortably 34-14.
In the boys’ section, Birla Blazers scored a hard fought 61-54 win over Charminar Chargers to qualify for the semifinals. Rishon led the way for the Blazers as he scored 22 points. On the other hand, Rayhan scored 24 but Chargers fell short.
Results: Sub-Junior girls: Birla Blazers 34 (Dishi 19, Pranavi 4, Tanvi 2) beat Golconda Gladiators 14 (Anagha 12, Sahasra 2) Half-time: 19-10.
Sub-Junior boys: Birla Blazers 61 (Rishon 22, Bhavyesh 12, Neil 5) beat Charminar Chargers 54 (Rayhan 24, Dhruv 6, Adrith 8) Half-time: 31-25.
