Avanish scores 118 as rest of the cast disappears; Hyd 312 runs ahead of Bengal

Wicketkeeper-bat Aravelly Avanish slammed a century to spare Hyderabad the blushes as they finished the penultimate day at 189 for eight in their Col CK Nayudu Trophy match at the Aditya Academy ground in Kolkata on Sunday. Hyderabad are 312 runs ahead with two wickets in hand.

After taking a handy 123-run lead, Hyderabad batters made a mess in the second innings. Openers Pattapu Raghava (9) and P Aman Rao (0) went cheaply with just 10 on the board. Wafi Kachchhi (10) and first innings centurion Rahul Radesh (1) joined the openers in the dressing room with 31 on the board.

No.3 bat Avanish and No.6 bat Vignesh Reddy then salvaged the innings with a 120-run partnership off 179 balls. Avanish scored 76 off 87 balls, while Vignesh contributed 40 off 92 balls with six fours to the partnership.

After Vignesh fell to Ravi Kumar, there was mayhem again as Hyderabad lost their way. Pranav Varma (0) and Nitin Sai Yadav (4) and finally Avanish departed to leave Hyderabad at 186 for eight.

Avanish made 118 off 169 balls with 13 fours and two sixes. At stumps, Hyderabad were 189 for eight with MA Adnan on 1 and Rahul Karthikeya on 1.

Earlier, resuming at their Overnight score of 177 for four with Shashank Singh on 58, Bengal were unable to build on it.

Shashank Singh made 83 off 161 balls with 12 fours and Sumit Nag made 30. ABhiprai Biswas scored 21 as Bengal were bowled out for 261.

Pranav Varma took four for 86 and Nitin Sai Yadav three for 47.
