Andhra, riding on a century partnership between openers G Udvitha and K Mahanthi Sree, thrashed Goa by nine-wickets in their BCCI Under-23 One-day tournament at the Maharana Pratap College ground in Dehradun on Monday.

Chasing a modest 139 for victory, the Andhra openers brooked no challenge. They went about their task non-chalantly as the Goan bowlers failed to make any impression on the duo.

They shared a 104-run partnership off 128 balls for the first wicket which more or less settled the matter. G Udvitha scored 57 off 64 balls with seven fours before she was stumped by Tanisha off Harshita Yadav.

That was only success achieved by the Goan bowlers as Mahanthi Sree and Setu Sai V (11 not out) took their side to an easy victory. Andhra made 139 for one in 28 overs with Mahanthi Sree remaining unbeaten on 62 off 84 balls with seven fours.

Andhra’s Vishnu Priya wrecks Goa

Earlier, put into bat, Goa were all at sea against the Andhra attack. After a modest start, Goa lost opener Harshita Yadav (15), who was bowled by Vishnu Priya, with 22 on the board. Urvashi followed suit 10 runs later as she was run out by G Udvitha.

However, skipper Tanaya Naik and wicketkeeper Tanisha stitched a 75-run partnership for the third wicket off 112 balls and that gave hope that Goa will post a challenging score on the board.

Tanaya Naik contributed 28 off 56 and Tanisha made 36 off 56 balls but once Tanaya was run out by S Sailakshmi for 34 (64 balls; 4×4), the Goan innings derailed. They were swept away into the seas as the Andhra bowlers gained ascendancy.

Tanisha, who waged a lone battle, was the seventh wicket to fall as she was caught by Sailakshmi off B Anusha for 47 off 77 balls with seven fours.

Vishnu Priya did the most damage with a four for 27 haul as Goa were bundled out for 138 in 43.2 overs. B Anusha took two for 12.

The win not only got Andhra four points from the game but also boosted their run-rate. They are now placed second on the Group E table with eight points to their credit. They have the same number of points like Hyderabad but are second because of their superior run-rate.

Brief scores: Goa 138 in 43.2 overs (Tanaya Naik 34, Tanisha 47; Vishnu Priya 4/27, B Anusha 2/12) lost to Andhra 139 for one in 28 overs (G Udvitha 57, K Mahanthi Sree 62 not out).
