Andhra were in the dumps against Maharashtra in their Col CK Nayudu Trophy match at the DVR ground in Mulapadu, Andhra Pradesh.
The hosts were 57 for two after following on and are still 172 runs behind. Skipper M Hemanth Reddy was batting on a 53-ball 39 with five fours and a six and giving him company was S Venkata Rahul on 11. The duo have added 37 for the unbroken third wicket after Vicky Ostwal had reduced them to 20 for two. Incidentally, Vicky had taken seven wickets in Andhra’s first innings.
The Andhra batters have a tall task ahead of them to save the game. They need to bat better than what they did in the first innings as there are two more days in the game.
Replying to Maharashtra’s mammoth 416, the Andhra batters failed to put up a fight in their first innings. Hemanth Reddy (25), SDNV Prasad (30), M Abhinav (40) and GSP Teja (51) got off to good starts but they failed to capitalize on it. Andhra could not build solid partnerships barring the 94-run stand for the fifth wicket between Teja and Abhinav.
Brief scores: Maharashtra 416 vs Andhra 187 in 59.1 overs (M Hemanth Reddy 25, SDNV Prasad 30, M Abhinav 40, GPS Teja 51; Vicky Ostwal 7/68, AR Nishad 3/43) and 57/2 in 15 overs (M Hemanth Reddy 39 batting, S Venkata Rahul 11 batting; Vicky Ostwal 2/26).
