Amee Kamani of Madhya Pradesh came up with a solid display to floor reigning IBSF World snooker champion Anupama Ramachandran 3-1 in the final of the women’s National Snooker Championship in Bahadurgarh in Haryana on Sunday evening.

In a clash between equals, Amee played the big points well to dethrone the reigning national champion. Although the bespectacled Anupama came into the final on the back of a brilliant break of 95 in the semis earlier in the morning, Amee upped her game a notch after the two split the first two frames.

The 33-year-old southpaw kept Anupama on a tight leash and scored whenever she got the opportunity. Amee, who defeated Keerthana Pandian of Karnataka 3-1 in a tough semifinal in the morning, rode on her experience to outplay the Tamil Nadu cueist for her seventh National snooker title.

“It feels really nice as I missed out narrowly on winning the title last year. Playing the same rival and winning is a totally different feeling,” said an elated Amee. “National Championship happens once a year so it is a prestigious crown to wear,” added the Indore cueist.

Earlier, Keerthana outplayed Ishika Shah 2-0 to clinch the bronze medal.

Results (final): Amee Kamani (MP) bt Anupama Ramachandran (TN) 3-1 (50-33, 21-57, 75-22, 65-13).
