A year after losing the final, Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew won the singles title at the Mumbai Open 2026 WTA 125 tournament with a straight-sets win against Austria’s Lilli Tagger in the final at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association in Mumbai on Sunday.

The win served as redemption for Mananchaya Sawangkaew, who finished as the runner-up in the singles draw at the Mumbai Open last year. She had lost the 2025 final to Jil Teichmann of Switzerland.

The 23-year-old Mananchaya Sawangkaew, 236th in the women’s singles tennis rankings, won the fifth edition of the Mumbai Open after a 6-4, 6-3 win over World No. 128 Lilli Tagger in an hour and 25 minutes.

The singles final witnessed a tense start to the match with neither player giving away an inch in the opening set.  However, Mananchaya Sawangkaew eventually drew first blood after managing to clinch a crucial break at 4-4 en route to securing the first set.

Despite some resistance from Lilli Tagger in the second set, the Austrian teenager fell short as Mananchaya Sawangkaew broke her in the fifth and ninth games to win the Mumbai Open title.

Elena Pridankina and Polina Latcenko win doubles title

Meanwhile, the doubles final went the distance as Elena Pridankina, who won the title last year with Amina Anshba, clinched her second successive Mumbai Open doubles crown, this time alongside a new partner in Polina Iatcenko.

Elena Pridankina and Polina Iatcenko edged past Mananchaya Sawangkaew and Nicole Fossa Huergo of Argentina in a gripping match tie-break to eventually prevail 7(7)-6(3), 1-6, 10-5 in the final.

India’s challenge at the Mumbai Open had ended on Thursday. Rutuja Bhosale and her Thai partner lost in the doubles quarter-finals before the all-Indian tennis pair of Ankita Raina and Shrivalli Bhamidipaty also bowed out. None of the Indian singles players made it past the opening round.

Results (final): Singles: Mananchaya Sawangkaew (THA) beat Lilli Tagger (AUT) 6-4, 6-3.

Doubles: Elena Pridankina/ Polina Latcenko beat Mananchaya Sawangkaew (THA)/ Nicole Fossa Huergo (ARG) 7(7)-6(3), 1-6, (10-5).
