Telangana teams fare poorly in National sub-junior basketball; Delhi, TN & K’taka do well

Telangana teams came a cropper as the Sub Junior National Basketball Championship commenced in Vijayawada on Sunday with high-octane action across both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.

Chhattisgarh outclassed Telangana 81-33 in the boys’ Pool C action and in the girls’ category, Karnataka put on a masterclass to defeat Telangana 84-39 in Pool A.

Powerhouse states asserted their dominance early, registering massive victories as the prestigious tournament got underway. While the grand opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on Day 2, the intense on-court action took center stage immediately on the opening day.

 Karnataka boys opened their campaign in style, cruising past Punjab 71-37 behind Taksha Jha’s stellar 20-point performance in the Sub Junior National Basketball Championship commenced in Vijayawada on Sunday 

Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Manipur dominate

In Pool B, Delhi made a resounding statement by dismantling Jharkhand with a crushing 91-17 victory, powered by 16 points each from Vansh Dalai and Arnav Sharma. Karnataka also opened their campaign in style, cruising past Punjab 71-37 behind Taksha Jha’s stellar 20-point performance.

Pool C action saw Chhattisgarh outclass Telangana 81-33, despite a fighting 12-point effort from Telangana’s Nimmala Karthi. In the same pool, Tamil Nadu secured a comfortable 68-33 win over Uttarakhand, driven by Maryan Shanmuga’s 19 points.

In Pool D, West Bengal defeated Himachal Pradesh 67-34, while Manipur showcased their offensive depth in Pool F, downing Bihar 80-42.

Runaway wins for Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Gujarat

The girls’ matches mirrored the boys’ intensity, with several teams securing runaway victories. In Pool A, Karnataka put on a masterclass to defeat Telangana 84-39, spearheaded by Arushi Ananth’s game-high 21 points. Tamil Nadu went a step further, falling just short of a century in a clinical 98-18 victory over Punjab.

In Pool B, Kerala opened their campaign with a robust 63-19 win over Chhattisgarh, while Madhya Pradesh edged out Odisha 59-49 in a well-contested battle.

Pool C witnessed the most lopsided match of the day, where Gujarat completely overwhelmed Goa 68-4, featuring a 22-point explosion from Harvi Patel. Delhi started strong in Pool D by defeating Uttarakhand 81-25, while Manipur fought past Jharkhand 39-31 in a tight Pool F encounter.
