Shubham Dey will take on Jatin Jairam in the final of the Under-11 boys’ category at the 6th Gujarati Seva Mandal Telangana State Ranking Table Tennis tournament in Hyderabad.
On the opening day matches on Wednesday, AVSC’s Shubham Dey had to wage a battle before overcoming AWA’s Bhoumik 3-2. Shubham began on the wrong foot and lost the first game at 7-11. However, he came back strongly in the second one and won it 11-7 to level the scores.
But Bhoumik was not going to let it go easily and the third game proved to be a nail-biter. Bhoumik prevailed 12-10 to take a 2-l lead.
Shubham Dey then struck a purple patch and won the next two games at 11-2, 11-5 to book his berth in the final.
In the other semifinal, Jatin of SUTTA defeated Shobhit Jain of GSM 3-2. Jatin too lost the first game at 8-11 but came back to take the next two games at 11-9, 117 to take a 2-1 lead in the contest.
However, Shobhit took the next game at 11-5 to push the contest to the fifth game. Jatin made sure that there were no further hiccups as he won the game at 11-9 and entered the final.
In the Under-11 boys’ singles quarterfinals, Shubham Dey blanked Liyaan Rao of AWA 3-0 and Jatin Jairam thrashed Siddharth of PPTTA 3-0, while Bhoumik too brooked no challenge from Nadiraju of SPARS in a 3-0 victory.
GSM treasurer Narendra Kotak inaugurated the tournament. Other guests at the inauguration were TSTTA secretary Nagender Reddy, Dinesh Neelkanth, Dinesh Lalguru, T Nagaraj and Anand Raman. Techno Sports (Hawa) is the gifting partner for the tournament.
