Hy-Rollers off to a blazing start as they begin their campaign with a 3-1 win over Anvita Aces

Hy-Rollers got off to a blazing start with a 3-1 win over Anvita Aces in the inaugural Hyderabad Padel League at Hyderabad Padel Park in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

The Hyderabad Padel League is the biggest Padel League in India with seven teams clashing for honours. The teams are: Anvita Aces, Senses United, Apex Strikers, Hy-Rollers, Hy-Panthers, White Horse and the Kiwi Stars.

In the first men’s doubles match, skipper Ankam Krishna Teja and southpaw Vineet Mutyala had a great start with a break in the first game and continued their momentum to win the first set 4-1 against Soli Colah and Dhruva Hedge.

In the second set, the veteran Soli and teenager Dhruva combo rallied hard to hold their service games till 3-3. They did not let their rivals back into the game as they continued to maintain the rallies and finally won the set at 7-4.

The 3rd set (match tiebreak) saw Teja and Vineet staging a comeback. They took control from the first point itself with good bandejas and off the glass play to clinch the set and the match at 7-4. They, thereby, gave Hy-Rollers a 1-0 lead in the contest.

The second tie was the women’s doubles between Padma Veda Manikonda and Maithili Parimi who defeated Veda Raju Prapurna and Deepmala Jha 4-0, 4-2.

Padma Veda and Maithili made light work of their opponents with southpaw Veda playing aggressively with good returns and volleys while Maithili defended well with her off the glass play to win the match in straight sets. Hy-Rollers were 2-0 up and looked pretty settled to claim the contest without much ado.

However, Anvita Aces were not going to go down without a fight. Their doubles pair of Rohan Kumar and Rama Rishabh Kumar stunned DRC Kiron and Gundlapalle Yashwanth Reddy in a thrilling three-set encounter.

The second men’s doubles turned out to be another exciting contest. Seasoned southpaw Yaswanth Reddy and DRC Kiron made a steady start winning the first set 4-1. However, Anvita Aces skipper Rama Rishabh and Rohan came back stronger with minimal errors and patience to force the opponents to make errors closing out the second set at 4-3 (7-4).

In the ensuing tiebreak, the Anvita Aces pair contined to dominate the proceedings and took the closely contested tiebreak 7-5 to keep their hopes alive in the match.

However, Hy-Rollers were not going to give it up all so easily. The mixed doubles proved to be another thriller with Padma Veda Manikonda and Jayanth Tammineedi coming from a set down to upstage Soli Colah and Amineni Shivani in three exciting sets.

Soli and Shivani rallied well to keep the ball in play and let the opponents make errors and closed the first set in the tiebreak 9-7.

In the second set, southpaw Padma Veda and Jayanth played aggressively with good volleys, returning and defending well off the glass to win the set in the tiebreak 7-1.

The match tiebreak started off with both teams holding serves till 4-3. Then Shivani was broken to give Hy-Rollers a 6-3 lead with three match points. Soli played the anchor role, and Shivani used her tennis experience to take a 7-6 lead with a match point. Both the teams rallied hard and stayed patient before Hy-Rollers sealed the set and the tie 10-8.

Result: Hy-Rollers beat Anvita Aces 3-1

Men’s doubles 1: Ankam Krishna Teja/ Vineet Mutyala beat Soli Colah / Dhruva Hegde 4-1, 3-4 (7-4), 7-4.

Women’s doubles: Padma Veda Manikonda / Maithili Parimi beat Veda Raju Prapurna / Deepmala Jha 4-0, 4-2.

Men’s doubles 2: DRC Kiron / Gundlapalle Yaswanth Reddy lost to Rohan Kumar / Rama Rishabh Kumar 4-1, 3-4 (4-7), 5-7.

Mixed doubles: Padma Veda Manikonda/ Jayanth Tammineedi beat Soli Colah/ Amineni Shivani 3-4 (7-9), 4-3 (7-1), 10-8.
