A Sreemanya Reddy came from a set down to defeat Saily Thakkar and qualify for the main draw of the ITF W35 tournament in Tumkur.
The 17-year-old Hyderabadi girl made it to the main draw after a resilient comeback victory. Facing fellow Indian Saily Thakkar in the qualifying rounds, Sreemanya bounced back from a difficult opening set to secure a hard-fought 0-6, 6-4, 10-4 win.
Sreemanya has a horrid beginning
Sreemanya had a horrid beginning as she was unable to counter Saily Thakkar’s game in the first set. Sreemanya caved in meekly at 0-6.
However, the teenager pulled up her socks in quick time to regain her footing in the match. She started the second set with a fresh mindset and that began to pay her rich dividends.
In a closely fought set, Sreemanya managed to turn the tables on Saily and took the set at 6-4 to push the match into the decider.
In the decider, Sreemanya cruised to a 10-4 to settle the issue and book her berth in the main draw of the tournament.
The teenager now faces a major test in the main draw, where she is set to square off against the tournament’s second seed, Zuzanna Pawlikowska, in the opening round. This match marks a significant opportunity for the young athlete to gain valuable experience against elite international competition.
