Kolkata Knight Riders’ wicketkeeper-batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been fined 20% of his match fee and has also accumulated one Demerit Point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials during his team’s match against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on Sunday night.

In a thrilling encounter, Kolkata Knight Riders managed to edge out Lucknow in the Super Over. Needing seven for victory off the final ball, Md Shami struck a six to level the scores and give Lucknow another shot.

After the match was tied, Sunil Narine took just three balls to finish the Lucknow Super Giants innings. Narine bowled Nicholas Pooran off the first ball and then conceded a single to Rishabh Pant. Narine then had Aiden Markram caught by Rinku Singh to end the innings as Lucknow could last only three balls while making a single run. In reply, Rinku Singh struck a first-ball four to help Kolkata clinch the match.

Raghuvanshi admits to offence

Raghuvanshi was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.” The incident occurred in the 5th over, when, after being given out for ‘obstructing the field’, Raghuvanshi struck the boundary cushion with his bat in an aggressive manner and subsequently threw his helmet into the dugout in a similar manner, says an IPL release.

Raghuvanshi admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction.
