Yavuputra Tigers edge out Elegans Eagles 6-5 in FNCC-Pullela Gopichand Badminton League

In a closely contested encounter, Yavuputra Tigers edged past Elegans Eagles 6-5 in the FNCC-Pullela Gopichand Badminton League at the Film Nagar Cultural Center in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Last week, Yavuputra Tigers were thrashed 3-7 by FNCC Lions, while Elegans Eagles had defeated Porus Panthers by virtue of losing fewer points after the teams were tied 5-5.

On Saturday, Yavuputra Tigers and Elegans Eagles equally split the men’s singles and women’s singles matches. While Elegans Eagles won the men’s doubles tie, Yavuputra won the women’s singles and mixed doubles ties courtesy Anjana to pip their rivals 6-5.

Elegans Eagles get the better of Porus Panther in FNCC-Pullela Gopichand badminton league

Pranit of Elegans Eagles won the first men’s singles tie by defeating Shourya 15-14, 15-13 in a very closely fought match. Lokesh Reddy of Yavuputra Tigers then pulled of a thrilling three-game encounter against Pranav Ram. Lokesh won the first game 15-14 but suffered a 10-15 loss in the second game. In the decider, Lokesh managed to keep his nose ahead and prevailed 15-14.

Elegans Eagles pulled one back as Tazuwala defeated Tharun 15-12, 15-10 but Linesh helped Yavuputra level the tie again with a 15-6, 15-14 victory over Chinmay of Elegans Eagles. Both teams won two matches each in the men’s singles.

In the women’s singles, the script was not any different. Avani of Yavuputra Tigers posted an easy 15-12, 15-7 win over Aaryama and then Shresta won a three-game encounter against Disha Santosh of Elegans Eagles. Shresta lost the first game 6-15 but came back strongly to win the next two at 15-8, 15-14.

However, Elegans Eagles shuttlers hit back strongly as Shreyanshi defeated Navya 15-6, 15-8 and Kanvika got the better of Aaradhya to again level the scores at 4-4.

Elegans Eagles then took the lead again as the men’s doubles pair of Krishna and Sai Raman edged out Ruban and Mithelesh in a three-game match. Krishna and Sai lost the first game 8-15 but came back strongly to win the next two games at 15-11 15-11.

Anjana makes the difference for Yavuputra Tigers

However, Yavuputra Tigers won the next two doubles encounters as Anjana starred in both the victories. Anjana and Aradhana defeated Varna and Riddhima 15-10, 15-11 to win the women’s singles tie and then Anjana and Yogansh defeated Hari and Varna in the mixed doubles encounter 15-11, 15-11 to help their side triumph.

Women’s singles: Avani beat Aaryama 15-12, 15-7; Shresta beat Disha Santosh 6-15, 15-8, 15-14; Navya lost to Shreyanshi 6-15, 8-15; Aaradhya lost to Kanvika 14-15, 11-15.
