Telangana made a bright start to their 79th Santosh Trophy National Football Championship with a 2-1 victory over Chhattisgarh at the Ramakrishna Ashram ground in Narainpur, Chhattisgarh. After a barren first half, Telangana found the target in the 47th minute through Syed Imtiyaz Ahmed. The lead was increased in the 59th minute when Imran Ali struck. Chhattisgarh reduced the margin of loss when Ashok Kunjur found the back of the net in the 80th minute of the game.
Result: Telangana 2 (Syed Imtiyaz Ahmed 47th, Imran Ali 59th) bt Chhattisgarh 1 (Ashok Kunjur).
Dr Dipti Sur Memorial Multi-sports Championship kicks off
Fourteen schools and two colleges are taking part in the Dr Dipti Sur Memorial Multi-sports Championship at the Col CK Nayudu Stadium in Masab Tank, Hyderabad. Sandhya Rani, senior divisional manager, LIC, inaugurated the championship on Monday.
Army Public School, Golkonda, Telangana Minorities Residential Education Society and Kendriya Vidyalayas took the cream of the events on the first day.
AP is giving special priority to development of sports, says minister Ravi Naidu
The 78th Inter-state and 87th National Senior Badminton Championship was inaugurated by Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAP) chairman Ravi Naidu at the Chennupati Ramakotaiah Indoor Stadium in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, on Monday. The championship will run till December 28.
Speaking on the occasion, Naidu stated that the competitions will serve as a platform for young players and expressed pride that national-level badminton championships are being held in Vijayawada again after 10 years. He said that the state government is giving special priority to the development of sports.
He expressed hope that the participation of star shuttlers like PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth in these competitions will be a great inspiration for the youth. He wished that players from the state would excel at the national and international levels and assured that efforts would be made to bring more national-level competitions to Vijayawada in the future.
Vijayawada MP Kesineni Shivanath and Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan, Swachh Andhra Corporation chairman Kommareddy Pattabhi, SAP managing director Bharani, SAP board director Santosh Kumar and members of the badminton association were also present.
APFA president Kotagiri Sridhar in panel to discuss revival of I League
Kotagiri Sridhar, president of Andhra Pradesh Football Association, will be part of a four-man All India Football Federation (AIFF) committee to hold talks with I League Clubs. The other members of the committee are Lalregnpuia, secretary, Mizoram Football Association, Harjinder Singh, secretary, Punjab Football Association, and M Satyanarayan, deputy secretary general, AIFF.
The panel will co-ordinate and meet with representatives of I League Clubs to discuss proposals which will enable the conduct of the I League 2025-26 at the earliest. The committee and the I League panel will have time till December 29 to arrive at a decision on a short term/long term plan for the resumption of I League.
