Rajasthan Royals, riding on Yashasvi Jaiswal’s blistering 77, registered their third consecutive win of TATA IPL 2026 with a 27-run victory over Mumbai Indians in Guwahati on Tuesday night.
Yashasvi smashed an unbeaten 77 off just 32 balls with 10 boundaries and six sixes in a match which was shortened to 11-overs-a-side after rain delayed the start of the game.
Batting first, Royals ran up a mammoth 150 for three in 11 overs thanks to the pyrotechnics of their openers Yashasvi and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made a 14-ball 39 with one four and five sixes. The duo shared an 80-run partnership off just 30 balls.
Mumbai Indians tried to make a contest of it but were never in the running and ended up with 123 for nine.
“Rajasthan Royals looked ready from the start, especially with the way they approached the Powerplay. Their batting set the tone early on. With the ball, Jofra Archer was right on the money, and Nandre Burger followed up with crucial wickets. When you’re chasing 150 in 11 overs and lose three wickets for around 20 runs, the chase becomes extremely difficult. Mumbai Indians were already behind the game within the first few overs,” said former India player Piyush Chawla on Star Sports’ Amul Cricket Live show.

On Yashasvi Jaiswal’s knock, Chawla said: “Sometimes a player simply enjoys batting against a particular opposition, and that confidence shows. Yashasvi Jaiswal looked assured from the moment he came in and set the tone from the very first over. The way he took charge of the innings was impressive. Scoring 77 runs in an 11-over game highlights the kind of impact he can have.”
The leg-spinner also had more than a word of praise for Vaibhav on his knock. “Performing against Mumbai Indians is always special because of the quality of their bowling attack, with world-class bowlers like Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah. When a batter takes on bowlers of that calibre and delivers an innings like Vaibhav Suryavanshi did, it naturally stands out and gets people talking.”
“Rajasthan Royals looked switched on from the very first ball. They started strongly with both, bat and ball, and their decision-making was spot on. The captain introduced his best bowler early, got a wicket in the first over, and that set the tone. Their fielding was equally impressive. Sandeep Sharma’s catch was outstanding. Even before the match began, RR were the first team out on the field, warming up and energising themselves. That preparation made a clear difference,” said Aditya Tare.
