Villa Marie Degree College win OU Inter-College Handball title

Villa Marie Degree College scored a convincing 18-7 win over St Ann’s Degree College to win the Osmania University Inter-College Handball Tournament. The Villa Marie girls proved quite a handful for their rivals. In the semifinals, Villa Marie had defeated St Francis 14-10. In the other semifinal, St Ann’s scored a narrow 10-8 victory over Govt College of Physical Education.

Chinamma, secretary of Villa Marie Educational Society, Revati Devi Mathur, principal of Villa Marie Degree College for Women, and Dr Bala Subramanium, principal of Villa Marie PG College, congratulated the team for winning the tournament, which was held at Lal Bahadur Stadium. The management also congratulated the Physical Education Department and coaches for their guidance and encouragement and wished the team continued success in future competitions.

Final placings: 1. Villa Maria Degree College, 2. St Ann’s Degree College, 3. Govt College of Physical Education, 4. St Francis Degree College.

Sindhu, Srikanth for Sr National Badminton in Vijayawada

Top Indian shuttlers like PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, Unnati Hooda, Ayush Shetty, Sameer Varma and others will take part in the 87th Senior National Badminton Championship which will be held at Chennupati Ramakotaiah Indoor Stadium in Vijayawada from December 22 to 28. Shuttlers from 33 states will be seen in action during the week-long tournament. Thee 78th Inter-state Team Championship will be held on December 22 and 23. The 87th Senior National Badminton Championship wil be held from December 24 to 28.

Nithin and Jyoshnavi to lead Telangana throwball teams

Nithin Sagar and Jyoshnavi will lead the Telangana throwball men’s and women’s teams respectively in the 47th Senior National Throwball Championship to be held at Kottayam in Kerala from December 28 to 31.  The association officials distributed jerseys and playing kits to the selected players. President V Naveen Yadav congratulated the players on their selection and urged them to represent Telangana with pride and sportsmanship at the National championship.

Junior fencers selected to represent Telangana

The following fencers will represent Telangana State in the U-20 category. The players were selected from a tournament which was conducted at Guru Nanak Institutions in Ibrahimpatnam, Ranga Reddy district. A total of 61 fencers from across the state participated in the selection trials.

Punnaiah replaces Sathani in Vijay Hazare squad

The Hyderabad senior selection committee on Sunday made a change in the squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The selectors replaced Ilyaan Sathani with B Punnaiah, who was orginally named in the standbys list. R Dinesh Rathod has been added to the standbys list in place of Punnaiah. The tournament will be held from December 24 at Rajkot.

Aditya to lead Hyderabad U-16 team against Delhi

Aditya Vardhan will lead the Hyderabad U-16 against Delhi in Vijay Merchant Trophy match to be played at the ACA Cricket Stadium in Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh, from December 23 to 25.
