An unbeaten century by No.4 bat V Pathiksha set up Hyderabad’s convincing 113-run victory over Jammu & Kashmir in the BCCI’s U-19 One-day Trophy in Lucknow on Sunday. Hyderabad, who finished second in the league phase with 16 points, qualified for the knock-outs.

Hyderabad skipper K Nidhi won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first. The decision proved correct as openers Katta and P Akshaya Reddy put the rival attack to the sword. The duo toyed with the J&K attack as they piled on the runs. They added an exact 100 for the first wicket before Akshaya was run out by Ridhima Rajput for a well-made 35 which came off 56 balls and contained five boundaries.

Nidhi joined Katta and they added 46 for the second wicket before Katta fell to Mahika Singh Rana. Prathiksha strode in and Hyderabad had the best part of their batting after that.

Nidhi and Prathiksha had their rival by the scruff of the neck. Prathikhsa, in particular, was at her aggressive best. They added 148 for the third wicket before Nidhi was caught by Ayushi off Reyanshu Rani for a 80-ball 78 which had 8 boundaries and a six.

Prathiksha was unfazed by the loss and continued with her cavalier ways. Hyderabad finished with 337 for five in their 50 overs with Prathiksha remaining unconquered on 114 which came off just 75 balls and had 13 fours and four sixes in it.

J&K girls too began in resounding fashion with openers Kayinat Bakshi and Aleeza Jan (35) putting up 92 on the board before Bakshi was run out by Phalguna Reddy for a quickfire 60 (51b; 12×4). Thereafter, J&K lost their way and wickets. They were soon reduced to 126 for six before skipper Sania Slathia and Ayushi Ambardar stemmed the rot with a 94-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Sania remained unbeaten on 43 and Ayushi had made 46. J&K were restricted to 224 for seven. N Babitha took two for 36.

Brief scores: Hyderabad 337/5 in 50 overs (Katta 59, P Akshaya Reddy 35, K Nidhi 78, V Prathiksha 114no) bt Jammu & Kashmir 227/4 in 50 overs (Kayinat B 60, Aleeza Jan 35, Sania S 43no, Ayushi A 46; N Babitha 2/36).
