The 40th Olympic Day Run was held in Hyderabad on Tuesday to commemorate Olympic Day and promote Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.
The Telangana Olympic Association (TOA), in association with the Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG), held the grand finale at the Tennis Complex, LB Stadium in Hyderabad. As part of the celebrations, Olympic Day Runs were conducted across all districts of Telangana from June 18 to 23. It was held to encourage mass participation in sports and physical fitness.
On the final day, participants led by eminent sportspersons and athletes carrying the Olympic Torch commenced from nine locations across Hyderabad and converged at the Tennis Complex, LB Stadium. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 1,000 sportspersons, Olympians, students, and sports enthusiasts.
The programme was graced by Vakiti Srihari, Telangana minister for sports & youth affairs. Among those present were Shiva Sena Reddy, chairman, Sports Authority of Telangana; A P Jitender Reddy, advisor to government of Telangana (sports affairs), New Delhi; Ravinder, Sports Authority of Telangana; Anitha, Sports Authority of Telangana; Venugopal Chary, Telangana Olympic Association and Sateesh, Telangana Olympic Association.
In his address, Srihari emphasized the need for greater collective efforts to elevate Telangana and India to the highest levels of sporting excellence. He highlighted the importance of grassroots sports development, athlete support systems, and creating a strong sporting culture among youth.
The event concluded on a high note with participants reaffirming their commitment to fitness, sportsmanship, and the Olympic ideals.
