40th Hyderabad Sailing Week & 1st ILCA Open International Sailing meet inaugurated

Major General Puneeth Kapoor inaugurated the 40th Hyderabad Sailing Week and officially declared the 1st ILCA Open International Sailing Championship of India open during a ceremony held at the EME Sailing Association, Sailing Club, Hussain Sagar, on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, Major General Kapoor said it was a proud moment for the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad to host the prestigious international sailing championship on the iconic Hussain Sagar Lake. He welcomed distinguished guests, international sailors, representatives of sailing clubs from across India, members of the sailing fraternity and young participants.

The championship is being jointly organised by the EME Sailing Association and the Secunderabad Sailing Club, continuing their long-standing partnership in promoting sailing in the region.

As part of the preparations for the championship, the organisers successfully conducted the YAI Certification Coaching Camp (July 4–9), the International Race Officer Seminar (July 7–9) and the National Race Officer Seminar (July 10–11).

Kapoor highlights Telangana’s support for sailing

Major General Kapoor highlighted Telangana’s continued support for the sport, stating that Hussain Sagar Lake has emerged as a training ground for several national and international sailing champions due to its ideal sailing conditions.

He also acknowledged the contributions of the Laser Class Association of India (LCAI), the Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG) and participating sailing clubs for strengthening the sailing ecosystem and enhancing India’s presence in international sailing.

Commending the organisers for successfully hosting the championship, he wished all participants success and encouraged them to compete with passion, discipline and true sportsmanship.

With the formal declaration, the 1st ILCA Open International Sailing Championship of India and the 40th Hyderabad Sailing Week officially commenced at Hussain Sagar.
